Ben covered his ears, "Holy.... Overload...."

Just at that moment, the itch burned, literally giving off heat, but not burning him. The heat going straight through his jacket.

[Erika]

Erika cowered before Ben. She hated people yelling.

Beast snapped his hands back. "Ben, your burning up." He stated.

Erika looked at Ben, with concern. 'Daddy sick?'

'Sorry, Erika.'

"No, I'm not, Beast, I feel fine."

[Erika]

Beast shook his head. "Come with me. I think I have to run some tests on you."

Erika looked from Beast to Ben, confused. 'Daddy going to die?' She started to cry. She had just gotten her new daddy, and she was going to lose him so soon. She fell to her knees, upset.

Ben picked up Erika, oddly his hands did not burn her, it was only his arm.

"Umm... Beast? It's local to my arm, only."

[Erika]

Beast sighed, and shook his head. "It will pass, but might spread to other parts."

Erika let Ben pick her up. She continued to cry. Her hands suddenly reacted to Ben's arm. She shrieked as light envelpoed his arm, and then disappeared.

Beast looked at Erika, then at Ben. "I think she has the power to heal. Whatever was burning your arm, she has healed it." He then took Erika's right hand, and inspected it. The light was gone, but a white circular patch remained.

The itching came back, he grumbled as he scratched at it.

Finally peeved at this recurring itch, he put Erika down and took off the jacket revealing the white t-shirt, on his arm was a mark, a mark that looked like a stopwatch.

"What the?"

[Erika]

Erika pouted when she was put down. At Ben's exclamation, she tried to see what was happening.

Beast growled low in his throat. "Well, seems its a mark for your power." He said matter of factly.

Erika looked at her hands, and then up at Beast. 'Like me?' She asked.

Beast smiled down at her. "Yes, like yours."

"B-b-b-but what power? I am a human, for crying out loud!"

[Erika]

Erika started to jump up and down. 'Daddy, is a mutant like me.' She chanted happily.

Beast laughed. "You thought you were a human. Sometimes it takes something special to trigger to mutation, which with you did. Your extreme happiness." Beast shook his head. "You will understand one day." With that he left.

Erika kept chanting, and had started to skip circles around Ben.

Ben put the jacket back on and shook his head, "Beast belongs in the loony bin, I'm not a mutant at all." He muttered as he picked up Erika.

"Come on, little missy. It's becoming night, and since you are now my daughter, you get to sleep in my room." And with that he walked off carrying Erika to the HQ where his room was.

[Erika]

Erika yawned. 'Daddy is mutant.' She said, as she started to fall asleep in his arms. 'I want kitty from my room.' She told him.

((she sleeps in a special crib she can get in and out of. her room is on the other side of the house away from Ben.))

'Everything's been moved already from your's to mine.'

[Erika]

Erika yawned again. The movement of him walking, and his heartbeat, lulled her to sleep.

Ben ran his hand through Erika's hair. She was almost impossibly cute like this.

He smiled as he continued walking. A thought found it's way into him: He could remember what the humans whispered about him, he was different somehow, someway. They shut up when he climbed the military ranks, but he knew that they still talked about it, just when he wasn't around.

He shook his head, Maybe Beast was right. Maybe I am a mutant.

Sighing he walked quickly through the building and to his room. When he opened the door, he could see that Erika's things were already moved.

Setting her down gently in the crib, he went to his bed, took off the holsters, and lay down on the bed, still clothed. Bit by bit, he fell asleep, dreams thick with Erika, unknown powers, and a black shadow that gave him the goosebumps.

[Erika]

*TIME-SKIP*

Erika awoke to the birds singing outside, and the sun shining in on her. She yawned, and hopped out of the crib. She tiptoed over to Ben, making sure he wouldn't wake up. She then pounced ontop of him, giggling. 'Daddy, wake up.'

Ben opened his eyes, 'I was already awake.'

He tickled her for a few minutes, but he couldn't get the bad feeling he had out of him.

[Erika]

Erika giggled, and leapt gave him a kiss on the cheek. 'School for me?' She asked, her eyes conveying fear and excitment.

[evan..relic]

Ben smiled, 'Yes, now just let me get up.'

[Erika]

Erika nodded, and ran to the bathroom. She threw her dirty clothes in the wash bin, and put washed herself with a wet face-cloth. She then put on her usual outfit, and exited the bathroom. Erika went the Ben's bed, and climbed up, waiting for him.

As Erika ran off, Ben swung his legs off the bed and for a moment rested his head in the palms of his hands, What a dream....

Standing up, he sighed, now he really had to work at being Erika's dad.

[Erika]

Erika heard his thoughts, but stayed on the bed waiting for him. She had thoughts of her own, which she didn't project to Ben. 'Does daddy want to get rid of me? Is that why he is sending me to school?' She thought to herself. 'Daddy love me?' Erika had just gotten a new father, but she was having doubts whether he truly loved her or not.

'Of course, Eri. I love you a lot. If I didn't, would I have gone through all that to adopt you? And the only reason I'm sending you to school is that you can learn and become much better and smarter.'

[Erika]

Erika jumped a little. 'Daddy, how can you hear me? I wasn't projecting my thoughts to you.' She said stunned. 'Daddy loves me? Daddy mutant like me?' She asked.

[evan..relic]

Ben smiled and picked Erika up, 'Yeah, I'm a mutant. Like you. Apparently with telepathy.'

While he was awake and Erika asleep, he had finally accepted the fact that he was, in fact, a mutant.

[Erika]

Erika smiled. She giggled when Ben picked her up. 'Daddy, I love you.'

'Love you too.' He kissed her lightly on the head.

[Erika]

Erika hugged him. 'I don't wanna go to school.' She whined.

'You're going. Don't worry, I'll be there with you.'

[Erika]

Erika frowned, and wiggled out of his grasp. She dived under the bed, and hid under it, making sure she was out of arms reach of him. 'I don't wanna go.' She said, defiantly. 'You can't make me.'
