Right, you're right...uhm...

We know your...salarian, I think, can manage the 'reluctant leader' bit, but yes...we do kind of need someone to take the leadership caste. To my chagrin, I can't have Tzu suddenly become a leader, unless everyone on the ship says they're his subordinate. Apoidean psychology kind of ensures that male drones can only really lead lesser male drones, the male gender wasn't really intended for leadership.

Doctor Who race. They're clones of eachother, soldiers, and have a glaring weak spot on their back. Cory might use them instead of human, due to the 'soldier' bit, without their one-shot-one-kill weapon.

He's like most. If he's gonna bother to pick an alien, he'd probably pick one he knows and/or likes. To be fair, that's what most of us (save for those of us crazy enough to make our own) have done anyway: pick and choose what we know and/or like.
